No Season 4 for the space drama.
May 10, 2018
It is being reported that Syfy has opted to cancel The Expanse after its current third season. The space opera is midway through its final 13-episode run, which will conclude in July.
No decision was given as to why the cable network is ending the series, which draws a healthy audience and has received continued critical acclaim. Word is that the production company behind the show, Alcon Television Group, will be shopping it around to potential buyers with hopes of continuing its story.
Based on the novel series of the same name by Daniel Abraham, The Expanse takes place two hundred years in the future, with mankind having colonized the solar system. A hardened detective and a rogue ship's crew work together in a race across the solar system to expose a conspiracy that threatens the survival of humanity.

Now is the time to stop watching. The next to the last episode pretty much ties up all of the current loose ends except for what the heck happened on Venus. The upcoming last episode of the season, and now the series, is going to do nothing but introduce a bunch of new story lines that are not going to get resolved.

Well, seeing as though I have my bi-annual contract with Fios up in July, I think it's time to revise (slim?) down my channel package selections. SyFy cancelling the next BSG-esque show with SO many story plotline possibilities (considering the number of books already written by the show's creators) and try is so refreshing.. it's packed with character development, plausible timeline, facts, effects, limitations, etc... and you cancel this JUST when the S3E6 "Immolation" airs tonight 3 DAYS AFTER ANNOUNCING CANCELLATION?! The story has just tied several story arcs together which just unleashed several ideas I never pondered regarding the future, considering this show takes place plausibly 2 centuries into the future... It's just starting its next foothold up, and SyFy cuts it off at its knees? I've no longer got any need to keep paying for your channel anymore. I'm sorry, even with the commercial promise of bringing "yet another new sci-fi show written by George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones)" this autumn/winter, what's keeping you from canceling a perfect show next year? You don't just need "viewer ratings". You need "viewer faith and assurance"... So far, you've been cutting shows before their prime throughout this decade, and now you're cancelling a 100% Rotten Tomatoes-rated series 3 seasons in?? I can't trust you anymore. I can't spend my time getting invested into shows that may be cancelled at any moment. I can't trust in you, SyFy, anymore. Good luck, and good riddance...

Damn! The Expanse is the best sc-ifi series on TV and probably for a long time to come. It is like a novel, expansive and brilliantly told. Outstanding production with great casting and CGI.. Maybe HBO will find it an excellent fit for the GoT slot after it ends. This show deserves far more seasons.
Krypton, by comparison, is loathsomely formulaic and predictable.

An enjoyable sci-fi show that is cancelled when there are so few on tv. This is the only thing I watched on the channel, most of their stuff is predictable and low budget. I found this show gritty and was interested in the characters and their development over the course of the show.

This is the worst Tv related news I have received in recent memory. This was a genuinely good series with good production values and good story and good characters and good actors. Why on Earth would ScyFy cancel this without even giving a reason!? Its absurd.
I hope it gets picked up by some other network. Not Netflix though...Hulu?

Wow too! But I knew it had a strong following and I also think the SciFried brass are morons. Yet it’s me and you Suzanne that are not in love with the show - But I do LIKE it and would have continued to watch - now the five new episodes on my DVR will be deleted and I will not watch the news ones yet to air. Great call SciFried brains infested with snake worms in charge!
