Amazon announced today that The Expanse has been picked up for a sixth and final season. The news comes three weeks ahead of the drama's Season 5 premiere, which hits the streaming service on December 16.
The critically-acclaimed space opera got its start on Syfy, where it aired its first three seasons between 2015 and 2018. It was subsequently cancelled, but Amazon didn't take long in reviving the series after a substantial outcry from fans that even included an airplane banner being flown over Amazon Studios in Santa Monica.
Based on the novel series of the same name by Daniel Abraham, The Expanse takes place two hundred years in the future, with mankind having colonized the solar system. A hardened detective and a rogue ship's crew work together in a race across the solar system to expose a conspiracy that threatens the survival of humanity.
Production on Season 6 is reportedly set to begin in early 2021, with a likely premiere later in the year.

I also wish someone else would pick it up, but that is too much to hope for. 6 years is a very good run nowadays. I would'nt be surpirsed if in the future Amazon released a 90 - 120 minute mini-movie based on it. This was done for Babylon 5, Dead like Me, etc. Good way to keep it alive a while longer
Shame to see it go, but glad they get another, if final, season.
