The futuristic drama will continue in 2018.
March 16, 2017
Syfy announced today that The Expanse has been renewed for a third season. The space opera is currently midway through its sophomore run, where it continues to draw a consistent audience and favorable reviews from critics.
Based on the novel series of the same name by Daniel Abraham, The Expanse takes place two hundred years in the future, with mankind having colonized the solar system. A hardened detective and a rogue ship's crew work together in a race across the solar system to expose a conspiracy that threatens the survival of humanity.
The cable network has ordered another 13 episodes for Season 3 of The Expanse for a premiere in 2018.

Not at all surprised to see it renewed. Like many, I crave decent sci-fi, and was a bit worried about Season 1 sort of slow first few episodes. Glad I hung with it. It is a complex story and they needed some time to set the stage and intro the basic story.
Season 2 was a thing of beauty for genre geeks like me. The story has one glued to each episode - even the occasional 2nd or 3rd time thru... The cast is excellent. Despite being small screen, the sets are excellent - they match what takes place on or in them. The series is not bogged down with too much gee wiz technology, actually I suspect they've been a bit stingy with techno gadgets considering 200 years in the future; think 1816 vs 2016. Lastly the use of visual effects are not over played, but when used they are quite well done.
Step back and see this story could be adapted to any of the crappy doctor/lawyer/cop/spy genres but this one was adapted from sci-fi and that's where it works best. Indeed one need not be a sci-fi geek to enjoy this series.
I suspect this series has the potential for several more seasons. Yeah the proto-molecule thing will stale, but hey it's big solar system (almost a light year from one side of the Ort Cloud to the other)and there are potentially thousands of oddities out there to find.

great Show!! Yea.... I knew the BELTAS will have a good shot a this show!!
Congrattas to the Inners for keeping this show alive!!
I've bought the Blu-Ray for Season 1... but... very little (well none) special features. Shame.

Thanks Mark - My dvr shows the first episode as 99 (actually 299 for second season) and it's 96 minutes long (hopefully it's not truncated). The title is "Safe; Doors & Corners". I checked and these are the titles for episodes 201 and 202.

Steve S. Ep 1 and 2 aired back to back on 2/1/17. Your dvr probably has it as 1 2 hour long Ep. bub. Learn some manners.

bub,
I don't quite get you. My DVR has seven episodes recorded (all for this season), not eight. As I said, I haven't watched any yet. Is my DVR missing one? (A while back I watched a behind the scenes, or something, special. But I barely watched it as it didn't look too exciting.)

Wow, the second season just started and I haven't watched an episode yet. Something's rigged. If I wouldn't have liked the last episode of the first season I would have bailed already. @Mark, it doesn't feel like the story is following a book. Rather it feels like it's all made up on the spot. I find the space politics mostly silly but with a deep voice. Much comes off incoherent. But I'm ready to see where it goes next, just in case.

Very good books. But they made the show unwatchable for me. I kept comparing the show to the books as I watched. The show did not measure up. Maybe I would have liked the show if I had not read the books?

Awesome news!!! The show keeps getting more intense and more mysterious every episode and i'm hooked.
