Read the books before watching the series, season 1 was pretty much word for word.

The only thing that lets it down for me is thomas jane. I've never been a fan of his but it's like the producers said to themselves "...we must get at least one well-known actor..." and he was the best they could do.
Shohreh Aghdashloo, on the other hand, is great and I would like to see her do more by way of getting into the grit of the political situation a bit more, perhaps with a bit more trickery like we have already seen from her character to flesh it out.
She and her character have been sorely underused in establishing the background to the factions of the show, something I think would have laid a better foundation for the show's future.

Love it so far, the more I watch the more it draws me in. Best Sci-Fi of the season.
I think the story line & its execution could have the potential to be there with the best in Sci-Fi i.e. Babylon 5, Stargate Universe (they killed SU way too soon)

Meh... watched the first episode and haven't felt any compelling need to watch more, yet. I do have the others to watch.. so I've not given up, However, the pilot was kind of a snooze-fest.

I like The Expanse. It's visuals are excellent, which is over half the battle for TV or any other form of SciFi. It's all about what imagined worlds look like. Story telling is passable. This is about future humanity in space, so no quarrel with drunks, washed up cops, misfits, et. al. out there. The political aspects are great hooks, because humans are political animals. Since I haven't read the books, I look forward to the unfolding tale around Julie Mao's suspenseful plight. Glad The Expanse got an early renewal. Very good TV.

I'm reluctant to watch the tv series. Is it as good as the books? I've read the books so I know everything that is going to happen.

Simple minded people can't watch complex shows like this, they get bored. I am certain these are the same people that don't like Game Of Thrones because they can't follow it. I really enjoy this show. I have tried to watch shows on SyFy before, but they are always really hokey and simple. This show on the other hand seems to be very well written and the acting is pretty good.

odd I don't recall hearing anything about this show, but I love SyFy (mostly when it was spelt the way we did back in the day hehe SciFi was pretty good stuff lol)
Now I am torn a 2nd season is good, but the reviews are so mixed... hmmmm I am glad to see when shows get renewed though at least when I see some people are happy about it, so many shows are canceled these days without a proper chance, maybe this one can pick up some steam!

The problem with this show, it is yet ANOTHER alcoholic, washed up cop, with anger issues and an axe to grind with authority. Pretty much the most tired and over used plot line in TV today. If they want to see how well that works just take a look at True Detective Season 2, it was a huge flop.
