The long-running comedy will say good-bye next spring.
August 22, 2018
CBS announced today that The Big Bang Theory will come to an end after its upcoming 12th season. The news will see the veteran series sign off next May as one of the most-successful prime time comedies of all time.
Since its premiere in 2007, The Big Bang Theory has been winning over audiences and garnering critical acclaim like few other comedies have. More viewers have tuned into the show since 2010 than any other comedy on television, and it consistently leads the ratings among many key demographics.
By the time its all over, the show will have aired a total of 279 episodes and rank as the longest-running multi-camera sitcom in TV history. It also picked up dozens of awards over the years from the likes of The Emmys, The Golden Globes, The People's Choice Awards, and many others.
A joint statement was released from WBTV, CBS, and Chuck Lorre Productions stating, "We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show's success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close."
Series co-creator Bill Prady also posted the following note on Twitter:

@monk_juice: in general you are right but with this show it was not the case. Contracts had to be renewed indeed but it was Jim Parsons who told creator Chuck Lorre that the time had come to retire Sheldon Cooper as he wanted to focus more on his theatrical performances. Without this main character the show would not be the same so Chuck Lorre decided for a final season to conclude the series.

JJ comment: “At least have the courage to have a live studio audience”. It was filmed with live audience!

About time, I'm a geek that loves sci-fi like superheroes, star trek, star wars, transformers, he-man and Thundercats and that show sucks. The storylines were always predictable. Wait for it "roll the Laughing machine" BaHaHa ha ha ha. Don't tell me what's funny the writing is supposed to do that. At least have the courage to have a live studio audience. Were you guys afraid no one would laugh?

I have to comment to person who wrote "I didn't know show was still on the air" Really?? Are you living under a rock??? You'd have to not be a tv fan but yet you still found your way to this comment section. Cancel your tv subscription, your clearly not using it if you didn't realize this show was still on the air!!

I know it has to end sometime but it would've been nice to see it the longest running comedy. I would watch this show for 20 years or more if it was on the air! Amazing cast, who knew this show would have the success that it did!

12 years is an accomplishment. They will have no trouble finding something else. Plus what Carmen said. They'll make it with their million dollar checks.Good show that needs to go out with a Big Bang...See what I did there ;)
