The veteran comedy will conclude this May.
February 17, 2021
CBS announced today that Mom will be coming to an end after its current eighth season. The news, which comes two years after the comedy was last renewed through Season 8, is not a complete surprise after co-star Anna Faris left the show at the end of last season.
Created by Chuck Lorre, the half-hour series has been one of the network's top comedies over the course of its over 150-episode run, delivering solid ratings week in and week out. The show follows the lives of a mother and daughter who are both struggling with addiction issues, tackling serious issues like death and alcoholism while mixing those topics with genuine and witty humor.
Look for the series finale of Mom on May 6.

Huh...didn't realize Violet character got axed too. She was the whole reason I couldn't stand the show. Nothing worse for me than watching a show with a selfish snotty teen girl. I would've given the show a chance if she wasn't on it.

Too bad. It was just getting better without the whiny Christie storylines.

Has gotten stale. Time for it end. Also...I have no idea why they ever kept the Wendy character. They absolutely never did anything with the character. Never developed her, gave her a man, or an interesting storyline. Waste of a good actress. At least she was getting a check.

Not happy at all. MOM is one of my favorite shows. I have always liked Anna Faris but I actually think this show has gotten better since she left. Now the show is more about each woman instead of just one. Please reconsider and keep on or bring to another network.

Decent show, to last 8 years is quite impressive for any tv series. Especially if a lead character leaves.. few tv series last long. And chuck lorre shows make money. Big bang theory was great , others not as good. The sheen show.

This show was canceled before its time. It took a couple of years to find its focus, but once they concentrated on the core group of female recovering alcoholics the series really hit is stride.
Christy was always an outlier in this group once the series moved away from her family and her former loves. It was a surprise to lose her but in retrospect the loss was not great.

I watched every season of this show until Anna Faris left. The dynamics of her and Allison Janey together is what made this show funny for me. I had no desire to watch this anymore once she left so seeing this canceled was no surprise as the show originally revolved around Christy’s life more than her mother’s.

Anna Faris' character had gotten stale and whiny. The show was better this season. Kristen Johnston is hilarious. Sad to see it go. She and Janney better both be on new shows immediately.

I agree ,every time a main cast member leaves it infects a show(including controversy and deaths) so like it’s not like a surprise, so when or if chuck lorre does another sitcom we’ll know what to expect.

I started watching Mom last summer and had to binge all seasons on Hulu to catch up. I started watching for William Fitchner and Kristen Johnson. Both are great on this show. Also loved all the ladies and really didn’t miss Christie this season. The ratings are still good so must be due to contracts or money. Whatever it’s a shame. CBS cancels decent shows and adds crap. Well thank you for freeing up more of my time. I can always watch repeats.
