The competition series will return for its fifth season on ABC.
May 13, 2021
ABC announced today that American Idol has been picked up for its fifth season on the network - and what will be its 20th overall. The good news comes just over a week ahead of the May 23 live finale, which will crown the show's latest singing champion.
The competition series has been a reliable performer for the network since being revived. It was in 2018 that ABC brought American Idol back as a mid-season entry just one year after it was cancelled by its original network, Fox. While the show's ratings aren't what they were during the height of its popularity years ago, the revived edition still draws a respectable audience.
It appears that host Ryan Seacrest and judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will all be back during the 2021-2022 season, as they are all featured in a promo looking for the next group of contestants.

This show should be boycotted. Katy Perry just did a video with Orlando Bloom telling the American people that our voting rights are being taken away from us unless we do something about it and support their political candidates bill. 80% in a poll said they want voter ID and more legitimate elections, read them room or at the very least the stats. I am so sick of Hollywood and their racist propaganda. They should be ashamed of themselves and owe Americans an apology for the inhumane activity at the border, gas prices soaring, and inflation going up during these horrible administration. We're not celebs, we use our money for basic necessities such as food and utilities. I hope people continue to tune them out and kill every tv shows ratings that expresses this much vile hate!

Biggest fraud of a show in history. They claim they are settling up someone to be a "Superstar" yet how many winners have done more than one album. Stop giving these little narcissists in training false hope, along with their equally egotistical parents.

it surprises me that so many people still watch this. nothing bad about that I'm just shocked every time it gets renewed. we used to watch this as a family wayyyy back in the day but have lost interest now. nothing seems to ever come from most of the winners so it sometimes feels like a waste.
