ABC announced today that American Idol has been picked up for its sixth season on the network - and what will be its 21st overall. The good news comes just over a week ahead of the live finale on May 22, which will crown the show's latest singing champion.
The competition series has been a reliable performer for the network since being revived. It was in 2018 that ABC brought American Idol back as a mid-season entry just one year after it was cancelled by its original network, Fox. While the show's ratings aren't what they were during the height of its popularity years ago, the revived edition still draws a respectable audience.
There is no word on if there will be any judge changes for the new season. As of now, expect host Ryan Seacrest to be joined by judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie for the 2022-2023 season.
