ABC announced today that The Rookie has been picked up for a fifth season. The good news comes with six episodes remaining in the police drama's Season 4 run, which at 22 episodes is its longest to-date.
The series premiered in 2018 as one of the higher-profile new entries in the network's lineup. Headlined by Nathan Fillion, best known for his seven-year turn on 'Castle', the show garners generally-positive reviews and decent ratings.
In The Rookie, Fillion plays John Nolan, a middle aged man who experiences a life-changing incident that inspires him to pursue his dream of being an officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. But as the force's oldest rookie, he must deal with skepticism from senior officers and the demands of keeping up with not only the criminals, but the younger cops in the precinct.
Look for Season 5 of The Rookie as part of the 2022-2023 broadcast season.

Nathan does such a great job on this show. He deserved a emmy. The whole cast is great.

Happy to hear , love this show cast funny and great stories for the characters, hopefully next they have him a rookie TO or something and will a new spin off I be hearing in a FBI setting or Fire house setting

I always follow Nathan Fillion's career and he's still great, but I hope the writing gets better next season.

Mixed feelings for me. Season 4 just slid into a bog and spun its wheels. Why? To me the answer is...our heroes aren't rookies any more. The moment was going to happen, but apparently the show creators had no good ideas on how to adapt and grow beyond being just another cop show.
