More episodes ordered for Nathan Fillion's new cop drama.
November 5, 2018
ABC has topped up the first season of The Rookie, adding an additional seven episodes to its original order of 13. That gives the cop drama a total of 20 episodes, which is enough to be considered a full season.
Just three weeks into its run, the hour-long series got a late start to the season with a mid-October premiere. Early reviews have been mostly positive, though ratings have not fared quite as well. While drawing a decent-sized audience, the show has been trailing its 10:00pm Tuesday time slot competition in both total viewers and the adults 18-49 demographic.
The Rookie is led by Nathan Fillion, best known for his seven-year turn on Castle. He plays John Nolan, a middle aged man who experiences a life-changing incident that inspires him to pursue his dream of being an officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. But as the force's oldest rookie, he must deal with skepticism from senior officers and the demands of keeping up with not only the criminals, but the younger cops in the precinct.

Keep the show. It's interesting and no too violent. Fillion is believable as a rookie.

If the show is renewed for next season, would Nathan Fillion continue to be a rookie (and for all successive seasons), would the show be renamed to "The Second-Year Man", or have some other aging actor play a new rookie?

The show lacks heart. The focus on being a rookie seems stringent, it's a wonder that anyone would stay in the job. No one is nice to one another on the show. They all seem to need a seminar on to be human. Let's go guys bring in the like..

I like the show, but there are shots of Fillian that make him look about 60, not the "40 year-old rookie" he's supposed to be...

I used to love Fillion on Firefly and Castle, (at one point my favorite actor) but ive learned too much of the man now to care for him anymore. Meet your heroes and all.... Anyway, the show is amusing and for the most part flows really well, but we're not cutting any new ground here. If it gets a 2nd season I might give it a chance if nothing else comes along, but otherwise as long as he's attached im not sure if i can ever be a "fan."
