The spin-off earns another early pickup.
March 28, 2023
Paramount+ announced today that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been picked up for a third season. The renewal is an early one, as the sci-fi drama hasn't yet returned for its sophomore run. A date for Season 2 was confirmed today, though, with the premiere set for June 15.
A spin-off of 'Star Trek: Discovery', the series is set a decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, and follows Captain Christopher Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One exploring new worlds around the galaxy aboard the famed starship.

They bring in obscure original series characters that were already established (and it wouldn't break continuity to do so).
I would laugh my ass off if they brought in some of the augment virus Klingons with their weird killer bee costumes.

The typical reaction by the woke here has been to deny it exists when someone complains about it. They have no idea what we're talking about. Now some are taking ownership and seem to be finally saying woke is all over the place in entertainment. And "Star Trek has always been woke" may be a new poster phrase. That Star Trek has always been atheistic is a given even though it hasn't been bathed in nihilism.
Make up your mind: is woke a weapon of the right or is it you?

Anson Mount is probably one of my favorite Star Trek captains. He might be evenly tied with Picard and Sisko. He's THAT good. And Pike was never a character I really cared about (Kelvin universe version aside).

Let's just hope they don't ruin it like they did ST:D

@Marco55 it's always been woke - and that's a good thing!
Really pleased we're getting at least 2 more seasons of SNW - just hope the rumours that Anson Mount might be leaving the show are incorrect (bringing a young Kirk in as Captain).

Marco55 hate to break it to you, but star trek was always pushing the boundaries of social issues ever since the original series. It's one of the most "woke" franchises that's ever existed. And being "woke" isn't a bad thing either considering the terms definition (despite the far-rights attempts to weaponize the term)
"aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social injustice)"
Only backwards bigoted rednecks stuck in the last century and afraid of anything that's different think the above is a bad quality to have.

Hate to shock anyone, but Star Trek was always woke. That helped it become an icon.

This show's first season wasn't bad. Hopefully they won't go woke.
