Paramount+ announced Tuesday that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been picked up for Season 2. The news arrives nearly four months before the sci-fi drama airs its first episode, which is scheduled for May 5.
A spin-off of 'Star Trek: Discovery', the series is set a decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, and will follow Captain Christopher Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One exploring new worlds around the galaxy aboard the famed starship.

Meaning.. we've got 18 episodes.. let's just split that into 2 seasons. i.e it's not REALLY a "renewal" it just a different plan on how they will air the episodes they've purchased. Once doesn't "renew" what hasn't aired otherwise.
