Paramount Network announced today that Yellowstone will be coming to an end after its current fifth season. The Yellowstone universe isn't ending though, as an untitled sequel from creator Taylor Sheridan has received a straight-to-series order for a premiere in December.

"Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits - from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life," said Chris McCarthy, President & CEO Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

"The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world," said David Glasser, CEO, 101 Studios.

Yellowstone's now-final season premiered last November, breaking records by garnering over 17 million total viewers. Season 5A aired eight episodes through to January, and Season 5B is now confirmed to conclude the series with six final episodes this November.

Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, who are owners of a Montana ranch that is the largest of its kind in America. Kevin Costner plays patriarch John, who leads the Duttons as they constantly contend with attacks from land developers, conflicts with the country's first national park, and tense encounters with a neighboring Indian reservation as they fight to keep their land in the family.
