ABC announced today that The Rookie has been picked up for an eighth season. The news comes with six episodes left in the police drama's seventh season.
The series premiered in 2018 as a high-profile entry in the network's lineup. Headlined by Nathan Fillion, the show has consistently garnered solid ratings year in and year out. This week it aired its 120th episode.
In The Rookie, Fillion plays John Nolan, a middle aged man who experiences a life-changing incident that inspires him to pursue his dream of being an officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. But as the force's oldest rookie, he must deal with skepticism from senior officers and the demands of keeping up with not only the criminals, but the younger cops in the precinct.
Look for Season 8 of The Rookie as part of the 2025-2026 broadcast season.

It's cop propaganda, but the actors and characters, especially Fillion, make it worth watching. For those living outside USA, this is NOT how real cops handle things. I would recommend watching an episode of The Philip DeFranco Show @ YouTube after watching this, just to bring you back to reality.

Getting long in the tooth, but they probably don't have anything to replace it with. This show lost it's grit years ago.

I’ve always been a fan of Nathan’s work and had meaning to watch this show and finally about 4 months ago I binged seasons 1 thru 6 and love the show. They have been a few agenda pushing episodes like some are saying but it’s handled pretty well. Now it’s about the drama and the relationships. Loving season 7 and can’t wait for season 8.

I was so excited that there is going to be another season 8 and hopefully there will even be more seasons after season 8 . I usually only watch true crime tv shows. Well my mom and dad always watch The Rookie,well that who got me so hooked on this show,so I watched all the seasons (1st-6th seasons) and now the 7th season, now I have season 8th to look forward to.An absolutely for more seasons. I just wished that Jackson West would of stayed on the show, fell in love with his character.An I wish that Tim and Lucy would stay together and keep their baby.

Not that I use that term, but the Rookie is the right wing definition of "woke." Multiple women of color in prominent roles, their boss is a Black man, a racist cop played by Brandon Routh shows up in an earlier season.
It's copaganda, but it handles the social issues better than say, Chicago PD or SWAT.

Best cop show there is, a joy to watch. not Woke or having hidden agendas, just easy going and entertaining.
