A drama following a young woman who is the object of desire for two vampire brothers.

Teenagers Elena Gilbert and her brother, Jeremy, lost their parents in a tragic car accident. They are now forced to live with their Aunt Jenna, who is doing her best to act as a surrogate parent.

As the new school year begins at Mystic Falls High School, Elena and her friends are fascinated by a good looking, mysterious new student named Stefan. Stefan and Elena are immediately drawn to each other, but Elena doesn't understand his strange behavior when he appears at the cemetery where her parents are buried. What she doesn't realize is that Stefan is hiding a secret â€“ the fact that he's a vampire.

After one of their friends is attacked, Stefan returns home to find his older brother, Damon, whom he hasn't seen for 15 years. Damon is also a vampire, and the two brothers have a long, bitter history.

Karl Barnes let me get one thing straight everybody has a right to an opinion we all know that if you don't find this show or topic etc. interesting don't go and be an asshole about things that other people like just cause you don't like it doesn't mean that it's the worst show on and I am in love with the show I have been with it since season one and it is still going on strong this is honestly this is a recommendation I love this TV show I was never into the supernatural until I started watching the vampire diaries so if you have nothing nice to say about something that apparently all of us love want to talk about and don't post a comment

KARL BARNES like seriously calm down and stop taking everything so literal....its just a TV show and as sweet said if you don't appreciate it, just don't look at it and please don't make stupid comments about it!!!!

I like TVD! It's mindless fun.. obviously for some it's some sort of sin (WOW and YIKES to the comment below).. but for the rest of us.. it's silly drama.. look forward to it every week. And you are totally right those blood suckers (Damon) are good looking! ;)

Another good example of the filth on television. Its about good looking Blood Suckers that have relationships with mortals. That is just gross! The idea of a nasty blood sucking creature makes me sick! What has this world come to? Bible says DO NOT EAT BLOOD. thats all i have to say.

Love this show. Hope there's some good storylines in the future, the whole Silas thing is a little bit of a let down. They didn't even bother to cast an actor. Love the original family and hope who's left sticks around. Also, I have to recommend a new show "Orphan Black", has a different twist and seems promising.

There is a facebook report that the show is cancelled... however it was posted yesterday and I suspect that it was an April Fool's Joke..... But with that being said, the show has been missing somethinng lately... maybe a human Elaina.... Maybe more shirtless hot men... aka Ian!

This show is one if not my only favorite show ever. I love this show with a passion, I just cannot wait for the next week to watch the new episode. It has the best ever actors than any show out there. This is a definite show to keep going for a very very long time. It would break my heart if this show had to end. All these people who have these negative comments about the show either dont understand english or are too old to understand what is going on here. So if you dont like it dont watch it but dont talk crap about this show cause its a really fantastic show. I'm a BIG TVD FAN!!!!
