No Season 4 for the space drama.
September 1, 2017
Word is out this afternoon that Dark Matter has been cancelled at Syfy after three seasons. Series co-creator Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the news in a post this afternoon on his personal blog, expressing his deep sadness in a brief statement and promising to follow up with more thoughts in a further entry.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the Canadian-produced space drama follows the crew of a derelict spaceship who awaken from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board the vessel. They then work together to survive the voyage, facing threats such as betrayal, secrets, and vengeance around every corner.
The series aired its final episode just last week, ending a three-year run with a total of 39 episodes.

Seriously! Absolutely no consideration for the regular viewer. The very least they could've done was to give the screenwriters the opportunity to wind the storyline up before finally pulling the plug. Whilst I understand that these kind of shows are very expensive to produce and need to provide a return I'm completely sick & tired of this kind of thing happening, time and time again. SyFy should hang their heads in shame for frustrating their loyal customers.

Same amount of viewers for each show but Dark Matter was going to cost more to make with the special effects. Too bad. Really liked the show.

@Jack Signed the petition, but that is just wishful thinking.
Share the sentiment of others, watched and like(d) both Dark Matter and Killjoys, if they had to chose one, they should have axed Killjoys, that was ok, but way over the top imho.
Dark Matter was the better show, imho.
And I do not share the view of the "Emperor of Zairon" arc, I thought that was a nice addition to the complications.
@PAUL HALL the woman playing the android was also playing a role in "Lost Girl", if you have not watched this. Some hot scenes.

I think maybe where DM failed was in not keeping the original crew intact, esp. in these early seasons. One was killed. Four was split off and spiraled into a separate and, dare I say it, interminably boring storyline. Six kept changing his mind about staying vs. going. Add to that, passengers/temp crew were added, then ditched. Three's holographic relationship with his ex lacked any chemistry or interest. Honestly, I felt like the writers doomed the show before Syfy did.

This is a show that has been on my "to binge watch" list when it came on Netflix. I wanted to watch it earlier by SyFy is bad about only having recent shows. Just watched the first episode and really liked it. So now really debating on if I should watch the rest or get out now since I've heard it ends with lots of cliffhangers.

That's a shame, Melissa O'Neil has the sexiest "hip wiggle' walk on TV today. I could just watch here walk up and down a hall all day long and be content. Dark Matter failed as soon as it split the crew up and started the Emperor of Zairon story arc. It was boring and the viewers felt disconnected from that line.

Maybe they felt they were getting a little heavy with "space based" dramas. Between Dark Matter, Killjoys and The Expanse there had already been some plot overlaps and who knows what they have in the pipeline for new/already paid for programming. Of course even if I'm partially correct I still think axing Dark Matter wasn't the way to go.

I find it very hard to reconcile why Dark Matter was cancelled and Killjoys got 2 more seasons. I like both shows, but enjoyed Dark Matter so much more. I think this is a poor decision. Dark Matter was rated 4.6 stars vs Killjoys 4.4 out of 5 stars. Dark Matter was 7.5 vs Killjoys 7.2 on IMDB.
This makes no sense at all. WTF?

Nothing more can be said here. Dark Matter was the better show. Another Syfy mistake.
