Fox has announced that Family Guy has been renewed for a tenth season. The Seth MacFarlane sitcom will be closing out its ninth season this later month, with a Return of the Jedi-themed finale set to air May 22.
In what started out as a ratings-challenged series struggling to find a steady time slot and eventually being cancelled, Family Guy has managed to turn its fortunes around to become a Sunday night staple of Fox's animation domination lineup. The series even spawned a spinoff - The Cleveland Show - which was also renewed for a fourth season in the same announcement.
"For nine seasons, our viewers have been cracked up, delighted, surprised and, at times, gloriously disturbed by the mind of Seth MacFarlane – and they keep coming back for more," said Kevin Reilly, Fox's President of Entertainment. "The Griffins and the Browns have become cornerstones of our Sunday nights, and we can’t wait to find out what new adventures Seth, Mike and Rich cook up for them next season."
With today's renewals, the full Fox Sunday night lineup will return next season. American Dad, The Simpsons, and Bob's Burgers have already been renewed.
