The action drama will move networks in 2016-2017.
May 12, 2016
It is being reported that Supergirl has been renewed for a second season, but not by CBS. It had been speculated in recent weeks that the superhero drama might move networks were it to return, and today those rumors were proven true as The CW has picked up series for the 2016-2017 season.
The move puts Supergirl on the same network as related DC superhero shows Arrow and The Flash, the latter of whose namesake has already appeared in a Supergirl episode. Noted as being one of the more expensive shows to produce, Supergirl will be moving production from Los Angeles to Vancouver, Canada for Season 2 in an effort to cut down on its budget.

This show I tried to give it a chance because I love the DC universe. But this show was horrible. The actors were not the problem it was the writers. They could barely come up with any material designed for her. They were mostly rehashing villains and scenarios from Smallville and Superman's comics. The writers are the issue and I hope they are gone now that it will be on the CW. If the same writers are going to the CW with the series the show will remain pure trash. Starting from episode 1 she starts talking about her cousin. "Superman" the writers need to let her character develop as Supergirl and stop bring up Superman over and over... Also stop teasing fans with bogus Superman appearances. He shows up only to see his shadow or his feet. There is so much wrong with this show even if you don't nitpick there is too much wrong with it. The Flash appearing in a crossover and Martian Manhunter revealing himself were the best 2 moments in the entire Season of Supergirl. New writers are essential for this show to be a success or at least decent in the 2nd season.

I have a deep-rooted loathing of the whole "super" storyline so I choked down the one episode with the Flash and washed my hands. Very, childish and immature... but... thats not necessarily a bad thing. Aiming for a young/very young audience is exactly what the whole superhero thing is all about. My worry here is that, by going to the CW, the show will become one of its trademark "dark-forboding" series and alienate what viewership it already has... worse they may try to merge it with the Arrow/Flash universe. I would have been much happier if they picked up Constantine instead...

Melissa is recently married. Spending lots of time up in Vancouver and traveling will not be easy for her.

Glad that it was renewed and for the change of location. Now if they can come up with a way of having more cross overs among all the DC shows on the CW. A mini crisis event that would merge them all onto Arrow/Flash Earth. Next season could be the lead up to it with the season finale of all the shows being the merge event with the follow season the aftermath for all the shows.
