The new drama will be back for Season 2.

USA Network announced today that Queen of the South has been renewed for a second season. The freshman drama, which premiered in June, follows the story of a woman out to take down the leader of a drug trafficking ring that has her on the run in America after her boyfriend was murdered in Mexico. The show is based on the best-selling novel La Reina Del Sur by acclaimed author Arturo Pérez-Reverte.
Queen of the South has had a modest showing for the cable network through its first 11 episodes, delivering an average of 2.25 million viewers in live plus 7-day viewing. The show has two episodes remaining in Season 1, with the season finale set for September 15.
There is no word on the number of episodes planned for Season 2, though a return in 2017 is expected. Veteran producer Natalie Chaidez, who executive-produced Syfy's 12 Monkeys among others, is being brought in for Season 2 to take over showrunning duties.

I've got the entire season on my dvr and have been saving it for a binge weekend. Since it was a new show I wanted to wait to see how the viewer reviews looked and also to see if it was going to get renewed or canceled. Now that I've read mostly positive reviews and it's been greenlit for season two, I'm ready to binge season one!

I thought the trailers looked a lot better, but I will continue to watch to finish what I started.

Ahhh just the good news I needed today. Binged on this over the weekend. Very good. Very addicting. I kind of can't stand Brenda but the show is still excellent.

Alice Braga is great as Teresa which, of course, is the strength of the show. The casting is good, the plot isn't phony complicated, and the danger and tension is well executed. Plenty of red meat. I have a several episodes left to catch up but it seems like the story could come to a conclusion any time, or go on indefinitely. As is typical these days, the good guys (Teresa and her girlfriend) aren't really so good so you have to root for the better criminals. However, I wouldn't care if it got canceled as I don't give it my full attention. Nonetheless, I expect to keep watching it.
