The CW announced late today that The Originals will be returning for a fifth season. The veteran drama, which got its start as a spin-off of the recently-concluded The Vampire Diaries, will be returning for the 2017-2018 television season.
While never the breakout hit that its predecessor once was, The Originals has been able to draw a consistent level of viewership over the course of its run. Its move to Fridays a year ago managed to improve the network's performance for that night of the week.
The series follows Klaus from The Vampire Diaries and his clan, who are part of the original vampire family in New Orleans. One thousand years after they pledged to always remain together, family bonds are starting to break. With the passing of time, tensions have risen and tragedy has taken its toll, with the hunger for power corrupting its members.

This is the best show my husband and I have ever watched!! I thought the Vampire Diaries was good but, this show is great!!! Please make more episodes! I love everyday to watch theses shows. I have not been complete since season 5 has ended. My husband and I want more!!!

I'm a fan but if this show gets cancelled, I'm blaming Freya, what a horrible character to add, I can't even watch scenes with her in it.

It's entertaining. A show about an attractive hoard of siblings, all serial killers, commiting heinous crimes against humanity in the name of family, the bead rock of civilisation. They have few redeeming features, one thinks, why are all these innocents slaughtered in their wake and how is it justifiable? We are given the same value as pigs or cattle. How many seasons would a series about a family of cannibals get i wonder, every week someone is carved up for dinner or lunch, there is a bit of drama, some light hearted humour around the dinner table and a love story between 2 charismatic characters; cosy Sunday night television. Look i might have just described Santa Clarita Diet but it was so bad i only sit through one episode; but she's a flesh eating zombie it's not the same.

It is a fantastic show. I was sooooooo happy to find out that it was renewed. It is the only show i look forward to every week when its on. The actors really bringthe characters to life!d

I am finding this season very slow. To me the first 45 minutes of the show are dull and then there is some sort of action during the last 15 minutes. I believe I am at the point that I don't care it was renewed.

All my shows that I hoped for a renewal ended up getting a renewal. The Chicago three except justice got a renewal, taken got a renewal, Grey's was renewed earlier in the season, taken got renewed and now The Originals. Love this vampire show even more than TVD
