The long-running comedy will conclude in 2018.
August 2, 2017
ABC announced today that The Middle will be coming to an end after its upcoming ninth season. The family comedy was given an early renewal back in January after being moved to Tuesday nights from its familiar Wednesday night slot for Season 8.
The half-hour series is the latest veteran comedy on the network to come to an end. Last Man Standing was unexpectedly cancelled back in May after its sixth season. The difference with The Middle is that the advanced notice should give its showrunners the opportunity to plan out a proper ending for when the show signs off for good in 2018.
Season 9 of The Middle will premiere on Tuesday, October 3.

Awww, MAN. Sorry to see it on the way out. Great characters and kept up with the changing family dynamics as the kids aged too.

Love the show for ever. I can see that the story lines are strained. Kids are spending more time home than in school. I hope they don't open the new season four or five years in the future. Anyway it was always set on our DVR and watched every week. It will live on in reruns forever.

I love this show and I've been watching it since the beginning, but it's time. It's been a great almost 10 years, but the kids have grown up and moved out. Maybe Sue or Brick could get a spin-off?

What a shame, it was always such a fun show to watch with the family. It would be nice to have an actual explanation.

Glad the show is getting an ending. Just hope it is not like Parks and Rec and all weepy season. Yhey need to stay true and maybe make the last few ending ones.
Mr. T barely won in middle america and now they have wised up to him. Also you don't parrot liberal Ideas you learn that they are better than being a sheep. When some one says liberal hollywood socialist I know they are just a Mr. T Sheep.

Well, it had a nice run and it's nice to know that the show is gonna have a closure instead of being suddenly cancelled. you have my permission to die.

Damn one of my all time favorites, was hoping for a tenth, but enjoyed it while it lasted and it's in syndication also so we can still enjoy the repeats.

tirebiter-maybe you're not a nice person. With all the Liberal shows on TV, it's nice that someone is not brainwashed into parroting Hollywood's socialist views. BTW-middle America-which is the basis for the show-voted overwhelmingly Republican. So please keep your socialistic views to your self.
