The streaming series will return for Season 2.
October 23, 2017
CBS Interactive announced today that Star Trek: Discovery will be returning for a second season. The good news comes after CBS All Access reported that the new entry in the storied franchise has been performing well on the platform, where it has driven subscriber growth with record sign-ups in a single day, week, and month.
It has been two years since Star Trek: Discovery was originally announced, and it has been a bumpy road from then until the show was finally able to make its much-anticipated debut last month. On top of taking the time to ensure it would live up to the expectations of a new entry in the Star Trek franchise, the big-budget production was met with multiple delays and even a showrunner change during that time.
The efforts appear to have paid off, though, as critical and audience response from the show's first six episodes has been mostly positive. The franchise's built-in fan base has also undoubtedly-helped ensure a large amount of global interest in the series.
Taking place 10 years before the events of the original Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery follows a brand new crew on a new ship as they take on missions to discover new worlds and lifeforms during the Federation-Klingon war.
Three episodes remain in the first chapter of Season 1, with the remaining six episodes slated to air early next year. As for Season 2, a time frame has yet to be set, though early-to-mid 2019 appears a likely scenario for its return.

I am a star trek fan, and I actually like the show. It would be nice to tone down the fx shots and the dutch angles, but aside from that It is good. Strongly disagree with the "No Story" accusations as it has perhaps too much story, the characters are a bit hard to get to know, but hopefully that will change. Glad to see a show that welcomes new fans to the franchise.

First of all, don't pay for it, get it on p2p for free, with no adverts.
It's different, I like the story I'm not finding it obvious, I like to focus is not on the captain this time.
It breaks trek law... laid down by Gene R.
The crew all get along with each other, there's no conflict.
I know, that's not realistic but hey its a utopian future, so supposed to be.
There are lots of things I don't like...
The ship....what is with the rotation saucer section, why would you design such a crap thing. Looks riduculus. Don't even get me started on the physics in achieving such a stupid idea.
These "spore" jumps, that cause the ship to rotate along the Z-axis..... total crap... the speeds shown, everone would be pinned...no.... just blood stains on the bulkhead.
I agree with the comments previously, the battle scenes are too quick and busy.
And.... the first episode... Michael, the mutineer, apparently reponsible for 8000+ deaths. Her mutineer was over about 30 secs after it started. She didn't fire first, she didn't get a chance to affect the battle soon afterwards. BS me think.
oh yeah... WTF subtitles for klingonese... No, thru definitely got that wrong.
I have lots more, however here's my prediction.... 2 seasons only.

Glad to see opinions from people like me who chose not to pay to see it as well as a few that have seen it and therefore have valid negative opinions. I don't like to root against a show since some people's livlihood/big breaks might depend on it. Even so, Bonkers makes quite an interesting and compelling point. I'd love to see a new show that is worthy of being part of this franchise but not this way.

It says a lot when traditional television ad revenue isn't enough to cover production costs. Must have been a hard sell to advertisers (says a lot about the quality of this show).

This show is awful. Its ALL visual effevts with no story. The visuals are way too busy and distracting. They ignore established Trek cannon and make up news rules. Klingons should not have cranial ridges during this time period. They gave Spock a half sister...like hello....how would that not have come up in 3 seasons and 6 feature films? Especially when they introduced Spock's brother.... The whole show feels like a lame attempt to cash in on Trek without actually being Trek. The Orville is a hubdred times better

Something is fishy here. I have MANY Trekkie friends, and like me, they all refuse to subscribe to CBS to watch the show - except one diehard who said she HATED it... Im wondering if this is a PR ploy to make it "appear" the show is incredible to pull in additional subscribers?
Unlike Mac, i dont blame CBS for trying, and frankly Im shocked this hasnt happened sooner with the success of Netflix, however CBS just doesnt have the show base to make me want to pay them twice (here and cable) for their service.

They lost me as soon as they announced that you would have to sign up to their stupid paid subscription streaming service. This is not a separate network, and should not be treated as such, IMO.
CBS should be ashamed at these money grabbing antics. They know how massive the Trek fanbase is, and are using them plain and simple to rake in the cash.
