The fantasy drama will not make the move to Paramount Network.
January 16, 2018
It is being reported that The Shannara Chronicles will not be returning for a third season. The moves comes just days ahead of the launch of Paramount Network, which the show's current network, Spike, is being rebranded to on Thursday.
The fantasy drama started out in 2016 on MTV, where it became the cable network's top-rated scripted original that year. The series made a move to Spike for Season 2, which aired last fall, but ratings were off considerably from what they were in Season 1. With Spike now rebranding to Paramount Network, the show obviously did not fit in with their programming strategy going forward.
Adapted from the best-selling Shannara series of novels by Terry Brooks, The Shannara Chronicles takes place thousands of years after the fall of mankind and civilization. With the Four Lands now in great danger, the fate of the world rests in the hands of an unlikely trio consisting of an Elven Princess, a human rover, and a half-human half-elf. Together they embark on a quest to prevent a demon army from destroying the Four Lands.

Alas! Here we go again! Beautiful show, nut head executives. There ought to be a law requiring networks to bring all their shows to a satisfying conclusion. When will they learn.

Why do they run utter garbage like the simpsons or the amazing race or jerry springer or any other "reality" show year after year after year ad nauseum, yet every time they make an actual good show they kill it off within the first two seasons?!?!?

Damn i really loved this show. It's change of network really hurt it. Most people have never heard of the spike channel. I read the books and they are good too.

this is sad but not surprising. spike showed no love for this and even doubled the episodes in a clear attempt to burn it off and get rid of it. why it was moved there in the first place is mind boggling. and as others noted they had no idea it was even back on. clear case of mtv is stupid and it didn't fit their demo of drunk stupid reality shows. hopefully someone else gives it a go. I haven't finished watching it as my on demand service (thanks spectrum) has episode 7 and 9 and nothing else. awesome

Read where the producers are trying to shop it around to a other outlets. Since Netflix is currently running it I put in a request they pick it up for a third season.

I agree, the mistake was moving it to Spike. It performed well on MTV and saw a ratings decrease once it moved. I forgot to setup new recordings when it switch channels and was unfamiliar with Spike and what channel it was on. Seemed like a better fit on MTV. Was a good show, it'll be missed.
