CBS announced today that Love Island USA has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes near the end of the dating series' freshman run, which is slated to wrap up next week.

Based on the British smash hit, the reality show brings a group of single 'Islanders' together in a picturesque villa on a tropical island as they look for love. During their summer of romance, the Islanders pair up when they have a connection and can be voted off when they don't. New singles also periodically arrive to stir things up. Viewers participate as well by voting using an app, with the ability to shape events that occur on the island. Eventually one lucky couple is crowned the winner with the chance to take home a cash prize - and possibly love.

Love Island USA is a bit of a change for the typically older-skewing network. While it does air 'Big Brother' during the summers, CBS is still looking to attract a younger overall audience. Also, the show airs five nights a week, which isn't typically done for a prime time series. Ratings-wise, its overnight numbers have been a little on the weak side, though it does rank as the most-streamed new show on CBS.com and CBS All Access in over a year.

Look for Season 2 of Love Island USA in the summer of 2020.
