FOX announced another multi-year pickup for The Simpsons today, renewing the veteran sitcom for Seasons 33 and 34. The animated comedy is already the longest-running scripted series on prime time television, and today's news further extends its already-impressive record.
Today's two-season order will take The Simpsons to over 750 episodes by the end of Season 34 in 2023. With the Sunday night staple continuing to pull in healthy ratings, there are no indication that Season 34 will be its last.
On the air since 1989, The Simpsons franchise is truly is juggernaut in so many ways. The series boasts generations of loyal fans, has won scores of awards - including over 30 Emmys, has countless types of merchandise, video games, and even a hit movie. As far as critical praise, it has received top recognition from numerous outlets, including being named the greatest TV show ever in the 2016 book "TV (The Book)" and Best Show of the 20th Century by Time Magazine.
