FOX announced today that The Simpsons has been given a massive 4-season renewal that will take it to at least Season 40. The animated comedy is already the longest-running scripted show on prime time television, and today's news further extends its impressive record.
The move is part of an unprecedented, early four-season renewal for four of 20th Television Animation's hit series. 'Bob's Burgers,' 'Family Guy,' and 'American Dad!' also got 4-season pickups that will take them all through the 2028-2029 broadcast cycle.
"This historic four-season order from our longtime partners at FOX is truly monumental for these iconic animated series. We are so proud that these legendary shows will continue for hundreds of more episodes, allowing new and longstanding fans to watch, rewatch and experience more of The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob's Burgers for years to come," said Marci Proietto, head of 20th Television Animation.
"This new deal celebrates the eternal popularity of these iconic comedies, as well as the enduring, prolific relationship we continue to enjoy with our friends at 20th Television Animation and the brilliant creators - that goes double for Seth this time around -- and incredible voices behind these contemporary classics," said Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network.
On the air since 1989, The Simpsons franchise is truly a juggernaut in so many ways. The series boasts generations of loyal fans, has won scores of awards - including over 30 Emmys, has countless types of merchandise, video games, and even a hit movie. As far as critical praise, it has received top recognition from numerous outlets, including being named the greatest TV show ever in the 2016 book 'TV (The Book)' and Best Show of the 20th Century by Time Magazine.

And like Armen said, it's honestly miraculous that the show hasn't lost more of its major voice actors over that span. I mean, Dan and Julie's voices have been definitely been showing their age for a few years now; I dread to think what state they'll be in come 2029.
If the day comes that Simpsons ends it will be quite something.
Not to mention the dozens of languages and countries to which it has been exported.
I remember watching the pilot episode back in 1989, the Christmas special. I was in college. One of the guys in my hall who was watching blurted out, "God, Simsons is the black comedy of animation!"
