The veteran comedy will not return for Season 6.
May 14, 2021
Word is out that ABC has cancelled American Housewife after five seasons. The sad news comes roughly six weeks after the veteran comedy wrapped its run, with its March 31 episode now serving as its series ender.
The half-hour show stars Katy Mixon as an average wife and mother who is bringing up her family in the upper-class town of Westport, Connecticut. It premiered in 2016 and ended up becoming ABC's top-rated new comedy of the season.
The network moved the show to a few different time slots over the years, but it found a home on Wednesday nights since Season 4. Overall it was a fairly consistent performer during its time on the air, and recently surpassed the 100-episode milestone.

Julia Butters leaving the show did it in. Can’t have a main character character switch out like that and survive unless you’re a really strong cast otherwise (like Roseanne was). I just hope the little brat’s career tanks after leaving a show that made you, simply bc you got a 5-min scene in a not-at-all-great Tarantino movie.

A marvellous show that slowly lost a step with each season, but that still left it hilarious and delightful. Then, as so many have commented, the brutal cast and character shake-up sent it flailing down the stairs to lie in a crumpled heap. They were all just twitching thru the motions. This ending comes as no surprise, and something of a relief.

so that leaves The Conners,Blackish and The Goldbergs for ABC must watch sitcoms...I 'm not sold on Call Your Mother or Home Economics but at least Mixed-ish won't be back.

Another show I enjoyed is gone. I might just have to give up on TV completely.

Who can I write to at ABC about this????
I want to deeply thank them for forever sparing me another 21 to 23 minutes of hearing Katie Mixon's whiny voice. This show was awful at season 1 and has lasted far too long.

Sorry to see this show go. It was just plain fun.... but the this past season killed it. New “Annakat”, 2 new buddies and the waiter - I don’t think so.

At first some choices seemed pandemic related, like losing the friend group. However when they added more characters it was obvious they knew this was the final season. When Katy turned to the camera and said "we had a good run now watch us slide. Children change a lot" We knew it was over. The final out of nowhere, with no forshadowing, build up, or reason, I'm pregnant part was a "hey do not renew us" message.
