No Season 5 for the sci-fi drama.
November 4, 2022
It is being reported that HBO has cancelled Westworld after four seasons. The news comes two months after the sci-fi drama wrapped its now-final run.
Headlined by an A-list cast along with big-name producers and high-quality production values, the series premiered in 2016 and made its mark by becoming HBO's most-watched debut series of all time. While each season has garnered a healthy amount of critical praise, viewership has continued to slip considerably during the past two seasons.
Today's cancellation is unfortunate for long-time fans of the big-budget series, as its story will go unfinished. Co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan said when questioned just last month that he had always planned on a fifth and final season.
Based on the 1973 film of the same name, Westworld is a dark odyssey that takes place in the near future, with a re-imagined past, during the emergence of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin.
Huh?

ermm..... duh! The last season apparently killed all humans (although that wasn't really detailed or shown) and only the "hosts" are left in the sublime.. where the hell could they go from there?
The director RUINED this show after season 1 anyway. Season 2 THROUGH 4 were nothing but a waste of time and a convoluted mess.
Imagine reading a book... read chapter 1, then chapter 10, then chapter 4, then chapter 9, then chapter 2, then chapter 6, then chapter 8, then chapter 3, then chapter 7, then the final chapter (11).... how good is the story??? It sucks, right? Sure you have read all the details - just out of order. Nothing is compelling, motivations are unclear 90% of the time... and it's uninteresting.. that's Westworld after season 1.

as someone who watched s2-4, this is completely on the showrunners/writers. not a surprise either, as soon as it didn't get picked up at the end of the season that was all she wrote
not even sad about it, all the actors in this will easily continue to work

I hated the show from day one. I have not watched the current season, the prior season to me went off the rails and really crashed. I was so enthusiastic when I heard they were making a series after that classic movie. One less show to 'try' and watch.

The show completely fell off after season one anyway.

Well, that is a disappointment. Great cast, great story lines, interesting plots and twists. This was really a great show in a lot of dimensions... but with the economy in the crapper - you know businesses are trimming costs (HBO was trying to trim 3.5 billion??) and this had to be a tall nail in their production cost meetings.
Hopefully another network will pick it up and finish the story out in 1-2 seasons.. maybe a netflix or hulu but if the viewership isn't big enough to offset the costs I think this one goes into the history books.

production costs were extreme, and the plague really hammered production. I am am not shocked at all. Wall street is not interested in spending money right now, they are more interested in putting out cheap junk to pay the CEO's 100 million $ salary. then in a few years go back to producing good stuff. but right now most expensive productions are being cancelled, same 100 million $ salary the reason. You can either have good shows, or pay the board. they choose to pay the board.

HOOOORRRAAAYYY....This show went woke identity politics theme after the first season. 75% of the audience stopped watching. It took them three seasons to figure out they drove their audience away. More shows like it will follow it's fate.
