'The Librarians: The Next Chapter' joins the network's scripted lineup.
May 18, 2023
The CW announced today that a new entry in the 'Librarians' franchise is heading to the network in 2024. Titled 'The Librarians: The Next Chapter,' the series is a spinoff of TNT's The Librarians, which debuted in 2014 and ran for four seasons until being cancelled in 2018.
The 2014 adventure drama was an expansion of the hit movie franchise, following an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library whose members dedicate their lives to protecting the world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around.
The new series will focus on a Librarian from the past, who time traveled to the present where he finds himself stuck. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team of Librarians to help clean up the mess he made.

Let it rest.
The movies had some style but the series quickly descended into mediocrity.
Why bother with an entirely new cast and call it "Librarians"? How is a spinoff except in name-only? Given this is the new CW I expect nothing but low-budget drudgery.

I forgot about the early Larroquette episodes. He was great to launch the series version. Time to revisit the series.

I will clarify - i enjoyed the original movies, (enough that it got me to watch the series) but i think Romijin should have been allowed to carry the show herself - she has the talent. Instead they drug Wyle back in and muddied the entire plot line. I premise of the series was that the "Librarian" was gone and the Library needed protection from the B-Team, not "The Librarian and those other people..." But Punisher is right - Nexstar will use the series to boost ratings for the network and cut it after Season 1....

While I disagree with Bonkers about Noah Wyle, I COMPLETELY agree about reprising Kane & Booth. Also agree with his worry that this is too little, too late. Just hoping for the best.

I'm really excited about this! I hated to see the original series canceled so I'm hoping that it is given a real chance. Also hoping for some cameos from the original cast. Especially John Larroquette ;)

It's the new nexstar cw, means 1 season and they will cancel it.

Bonkers is Bonkers!
Not trying to troll. I was enamored with the first 3 noah wyle movies. Great fun. I did not like the series and did not get through season one.

Im not a fan of Noah Wyle and i think he destroyed the original series just like he destroyed the Leverage refresh, and i cant help but feel he will somehow ruin this one too. Personally i think the only way id watch is if Kane and Booth reprise their roles - a whole new fresh cast would make it feel paper thin to me... Im sad to see CW go, but i think this is way too little, way too late...
