ABC announced today that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been picked up for a sixth season. The good news comes as the network is making last-minute decisions on its lineup for the 2018-2019 television season.
The veteran drama has had a solid run on the network overall, reaching the impressive 100-episode milestone earlier this year. The series has been on the bubble come renewal time in recent years, though, as its current ratings are far from what they used to be. However, the series benefits from its international appeal and its ability to tie-in with movie franchises within the Marvel universe.
Look for Season 6 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to premiere in the summer of 2019.

I totally missed the summer of 2019 part. Guess my first comment is moot because the next season comes out AFTER the next Avengers movie.

Watching the movies/shows in order made is not the same as watching them in timeline order. For example, the Ant Man and Wasp movie coming soon actually takes place before Infinity War which is out now, the upcoming Captain Marvel movie takes place in the 90s. Kevin was wondering if watching in timeline order was worth it and I don't think its required. Watching them in release order is preferable but in the case of AoS it took me a while to finally force myself to watch it, but then the Plopster was hooked, who knew 'Son of Coul' was such a bad ass?! Anyways, yes watching in release order is probably best. If you want to watch in timeline order, I suggest waiting till the entire story is complete then rewatch in timeline order. Because there is probably more set in the past movies/shows to come.

I'm glad to see so many positive comments. I do prefer to watch the movies and episodes in the order they are released. I realize it isn't strictly necessary, but I still enjoy them more that way.
Since that leaves me waiting for the movies to be released on disc, (I am physically unable to go to movies) I ended up getting WAY behind.
I wasn't sure if it would be worth a major binge session to catch up, but after reading these comments, I'd say it is a definite yes.

@Kevin I don't think watching in timeline order is super important. I binged AOS 4 seasons in a couple weeks and seen the movies as they came out, and don't feel any void. Knowing the timeline is good enough.

I was on the fence about this one too, but I think Season 5 took a quality turn in the right direction. The Inhuman story arc just wasnt interesting to me at all... One side of me is sad its only 13 episodes, but the other is grateful that we're at least getting that... unlike what some other networks are doing to us this spring...

Just read the 13 Episode news, Hopefully they get an extension but its better than nothing or maybe it's how much story the show runners think they have/can handle without running into major continuity issues if show is back on air before IW4?
So perhaps the 13 episodes is a good thing, rather have a shorter better written season than a bloated poorly written snooze fest which a lot of shows tend to do as a cash grab (looking sat you Walking Dead Specifically).
