Hallmark Channel announced today that When Calls the Heart has been picked up for a seventh season. The long-running drama has continued its solid performance for the cable network in its current sixth season, drawing healthy ratings on Sunday nights against formidable competition.
There was recent concern for the show's future, when in March it was put on hiatus following now-former cast member Lori Loughlin's arrest for her role in a college admissions scandal. But all is well now, and new Season 6 episodes are set to return on May 5.
Inspired by Janette Oke's book of the same name, When Calls the Heart takes place in the early 20th century and follows a young teacher from a wealthy eastern family who moves to a small western coal mining town for her first classroom assignment.
The series is Hallmark Channel's oldest original drama currently on the air, and has done well in building its audience with year-over-year ratings gains in key demographics.
Look for Season 7 of When Calls the Heart in 2020.

Is there anything new to be said? From the preview it looks like there will be a new Mountie to take Elizabeth's heart. But isn't that just more of the same?
But the law gave up on Jussie so maybe justice is just going to go die an ugly death in a corner or something.
