The reality veteran will be back this fall.
May 15, 2019
CBS announced today that Survivor has been renewed for Season 39. The good news further extends the veteran competition series' record-setting run as the longest-running reality show on broadcast network television.
On the air since the year 2000 with over 560 total episodes, the series is showing no signs of losing steam, as its ratings consistently top its time slot competition. It is also one of few prime time shows that airs two cycles in a typical television season - another sign that viewers are not tiring of the format.
Season 39 of Survivor, dubbed "Island of the Idols", will premiere this fall. Previous winners Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine will be returning to the game, but as mentors to a new group of contestants.

You know, after all these years this still holds up very well. When the players are good like in this season, the show will be good. the only thing i wanted to see is season 40 being announced.

I definitely enjoyed last season. Very strategic players especially from the young ones. Take out the veterans and then kill each other. That's how you play. This upcoming season, I'm not too sure. New players do not need a boot camp since they have their own newer (and better even) strategies. Plus, Sandra and Rob?! Oh please, there are BETTER mentors. Pretty sure this will flop big.

that's a huge amount of episodes in 19 years. five hundred and counting. reminds me of the british tv show, the bill. which had a thousand over about 30 years or so. that was a cop show. which is also strange because most brit shows have about 8 or less per season episodes!.

Only renewed for 1 season, that's kind of strange isn't it?

What I'm trying to figure out is why after this many seasons of Survivor do they to bring Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine as mentors?
Don't you think after this many seasons people would know the strategy of the game?

I still watch it after all these years. Most seasons usually boil down to a few watchable characters even if the format is getting pretty tired. It is interesting to see how much strategy has advanced after all the many interations, far beyond the alliance system of the first season.
