The dance competition is back with a new format.
December 5, 2023
Fox announced today that So You Think You Can Dance has been picked up for an 18th season. The competition series will be returning on March 4, 2024 with an all-new format and some new faces on the judging panel.
The new season's format will reflect the authentic experience of building a successful career in dance. Each week, contestants will compete in intense new dance challenges that reflect a dance career, from performing in a music video or a football halftime show to going toe-to-toe on stage with a Broadway performer. In the end, the judges will decide their fate, with weekly eliminations leading to the Top 3 finalists competing in the season's grand finale. One dancer will take home the $100,000 grand prize and the title of So You Think You Can Dance champion.
New storytelling elements will also be featured to further capture the authentic ups and downs experienced by professional dancers. For the first time ever, viewers will get a documentary-style look at the contestants' dynamics, following them throughout the competition as they go through their personal and competitive journeys, including the daily struggles, new relationships, personality clashes and more.
The judging panel will consist of co-creator Nigel Lythgoe, Emmy-nominated choreographer Allison Holker, and 'Dancing with the Stars' alum Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Presenter and author Cat Deeley will be back to host the competition. SYTYCD All-Star Comfort Fedoke will also join the judging panel during the audition rounds.
"So You Think You Can Dance is television's preeminent dance competition, and we are thrilled to bring the beloved show back for an all-new season," said Allison Wallach, President of Unscripted Programming at Fox Entertainment. "Reuniting Cat, Nigel, Allison and Comfort and, welcoming Maksim into the SYTYCD family, is sure to make Season 18 bigger than ever for their legions of fans around the globe."
