The dance competition is not returning.
May 11, 2026
Word is out that Fox has cancelled So You Think You Can Dance after 18 seasons. The news isn't surprising, as the competition series didn't air a new season in 2025 and appeared to be on its last legs after sexual assault allegations against co-creator Nigel Lythgoe and questionable format changes in its now-final season.
On the air since 2005, the show was a reliable performer on the network for nearly 20 years. It took home a total of nine Primetime Emmy Awards and has had its format adapted in over 40 countries.

I know I will sound naive, but the other thing that ruined the show for me is a former contestant revealing the call-in votes mean nothing. They already know who they want to win, so you could get a million votes and still get eliminated.
I know most of these shows are faker than a televangelist's tears, but I lost my love for the show then and there.

This first few seasons were really good. But then the judges started showing bias and allowed better dancers to get eliminated or look worse in ranking in favor of the ones that were their personal favorites or simply to create drama. Although a number of the contestants went on to do bigger things.

When they did the all-kids season, and then the season with two winners, they had gone way past jumping the shark. The way they would push mediocre dancers, the annoying Mary whatserface's "whoo whoo!" nonsense, and Nigel's weird and creepy comments, the show needed to die.

Not my cup of tea. I never watched just like dancing with what use to be stars or never were stars. Sorry to those who enjoyed it. Don't worry Gordon Ramsay still has 5 or 6 cooking shows to watch.
