The competition series last aired in 2019.

It looks like So You Think You Can Dance will finally be returning to television. The veteran dance competition has been off the air since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic affecting their ability to produce its already-ordered 17th season safely. But a recent Tweet from co-creator Nigel Lythgoe confirms that the show is on its way back.
Before its three-year hiatus, the Emmy Award-winning series was a reliable summer performer for the network. While its best ratings days are behind it, various format changes have kept loyal audiences tuning in for over a decade.
No time frame has been set for the return of So You Think You Can Dance.

This show is now giving us less episodes than before. Instead of the live top 29 they gave us the live top. Then 2 dancers were kicked of until the top 5. Where is the one person goes per show gone. The final is the top 3 not 2. Is this show so expensive to produce? Normally the final is in September. This year the second week of August.

This show has been renewed for next year. Right before they go to a commercial the say to apply for next season. So we we’ll see it in 2023.

I'm going to break my rule and watch again, just because they (THANK GOD) got rid of Mary Murphy as a judge.

I love this show and miss it. I would like a change in the format where people do not get voted off! Have them switch partners each week and tally votes and see who gets the most at the end. I always find it sad when people get voted off. I know they like to bring back dancers from previous seasons but I don't think it is necessary. Over the years many of my favorite dancers have been voted off too soon and I am sure many feel the same way.
Yeah I Agree

This show should stay gone. I love it in its heyday, but the constant gimmicks and changes haven't helped it. Time to pull the plug.

I agree with you Amy. There has never been anything wrong with the original format. These are some great dancers and the show spotlights their talents! It's been fun to see so many of the shows Alumni go on to star in other things. I'm glad it's coming back, but wish they would stick with a solid product that never needed any tweaks!

Ever since Craig Ferguson said it, I keep calling this the "Dance, Dance, You Fat Bastard" show.

Of all of the so called dance competition shows, this one was pretty authentic. I did not care of the many changes but I stuck to it. I will give it a shot to see what they have to offer.

“While its best ratings days are behind it, various format changes have kept loyal audiences tuning in for over a decade.”
Um, no, the constant format changes have driven off viewers, and the loyal viewers have tuned in DESPITE the various format changes.
