A younger generation of dancers will take the spotlight.
February 1, 2016
Fox has announced that So You Think You Can Dance has been renewed for a 13th season. The pickup includes a bit of a format change for the veteran competition series, in that it will feature a younger age range of contestants this time around.
Officially titled So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, the upcoming season will include dancers between the ages of 8 and 13 who are skilled in various dance styles typically featured on the show, such as contemporary, ballroom, and hip hop. Like previous seasons, the dancers will be paired with all-stars as they compete for the title of America's Favorite Dancer.
Cat Deeley will once again host the show, with the familiar judging panel of Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul, and Jason Derulo returning. Nationwide auditions kick off this month, in search of the top 10 dancers that will be permanently partnered with an all-star.
So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation is scheduled to premiere on Monday, May 30 at 8:00pm.

Will not be watching if Paula and Jason return. Not sure what Nigel and co. thinking. But obviously they are not. The dancers will probably be great and choreography awesome. However; inane, ridiculous, insignificant, useless, and worthless banter brings the show to a new low.

I completely agree with Steve... Abdul and Derulo are SINGERS that happen to have danced a bit in their music videos... This is a dancing competition... They should have real dancers judging! Bring back Mary Murphy!
And why would you cut out a key demographic of people who want to watch young athletic attractive guys and gals (and not in a pervy sort-of way...) and bring in KIDS?
I won't be surprised if they finally cancel the show after this season... if they even make it all the through it!

I've been a fan of SYTYCD but I have no interest in watching a kids edition.

The new judges last year were awful and the street vs stage format silly, but this new format is completely idiotic. What's next SYTYCD: Toddler Edition? I never thought my favorite show would try to race Dancing with the Stars to the bottom.

Don't think I'll enjoy the younger dances vs. the more mature dancers. I do want to say, I thoroughly love having Paula Abdul as a judge, I think she's lovely!

Every season for the bast 4 seasons the show has changed. Going from a performance night and then a voting results show the next night to once show a week. Last season to a street vs. stage show. Each season has had less and less episodes. I think this will be the final season.

I'm glad to see the show returning. It is unclear from the post if the younger dancers will be among the young adult contestants, or if it is just the youngsters... If just youngsters, I'll pass.
It is clear, the producers have not listened to feedback on the judges...Paula and especially Jason are worthless in this capacity. Where the he'll is Mary Murphy?!
