No Season 9 for the CBS drama.
March 6, 2025
Word is out that CBS has cancelled S.W.A.T. after eight seasons. The news comes with nine episodes remaining in what will be the drama's final run after what has been a bumpy last couple of years.
The series premiered in 2017 and established itself as a reliable performer for CBS until it was unexpectedly cancelled in 2023 after six seasons. A few days later the network reversed its decision with a renewal for a seventh and final season. That move was eventually walked back as well, with an eighth-season renewal a year later. This time, however, the cancellation will likely be the end of the series for good.
"It's heartbreaking news, primarily because it's been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we've always been proud of," executive producer and showrunner Andrew Dettmann said in a statement. "They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges. I can't give them enough credit. I feel so privileged to have been a part of the S.W.A.T. family."
Shemar Moore stars in the Los Angeles-based series, which follows a former Marine tasked with running a specialized tactical unit that acts as the city's last stop in law enforcement. Raised on the streets, he is torn between his loyalty to his roots and his allegiance to his new brothers in blue as he works to bridge the divide between his two worlds.

It was a corny cop show that tried for social commentary. The original SWAT show from the 70s did, too.
So did Dragnet, Adam-12, even Police Story.
People need to stop looking for political agendas where there aren't any. Networks care about ratings and costs, period.
That's why shows get cancelled: low ratings or they cost too much to make, or both.
Or it was just a generic cop show on CBS and as viewers have choices that don’t choose that anymore. It’s why a lot of them are gone. The 2010’s burned the public out on them.
Good riddance. And whoever wrote the theme music should be put in the SuperMax with it playing 24/7.
Still, eight seasons is a hell of a run.
