The veteran comedy will conclude this May.
February 17, 2021
CBS announced today that Mom will be coming to an end after its current eighth season. The news, which comes two years after the comedy was last renewed through Season 8, is not a complete surprise after co-star Anna Faris left the show at the end of last season.
Created by Chuck Lorre, the half-hour series has been one of the network's top comedies over the course of its over 150-episode run, delivering solid ratings week in and week out. The show follows the lives of a mother and daughter who are both struggling with addiction issues, tackling serious issues like death and alcoholism while mixing those topics with genuine and witty humor.
Look for the series finale of Mom on May 6.

Such a shame - William Fichtner's Adam is my favorite charactor on television right now. Im curious on why though - good numbers and the story didnt suffer at all with Anna's departure so i expected at least a couple more years out it...

Should have killed it at 7 when Faris left. -- Ignore all the grandparents here who like Janey... it's an old folks thing apparently.

Agree with Penny--Janey can carry the show and always has. Faris' character was getting so whiny on Season 7 I stopped watching it. When Faris left the show, I started watching again. Also, Kristen Johnson was a fantastic addition to the show. She is genuinely hillarious.

That’s a shame since the show has improved since Anna left. Allison Janney could easily carry her own show, but the fact that the ensemble is so good makes it worth watching week to week. The name didn’t fit anymore, but shows like Cougar Town didn’t fit their name after the first season and it just kept getting funnier. Sad to see this one go.

I too thought the show was just as good if not better without Anna. Allison Janey is brilliant and can easily carry any show.

No surprise there. The show has changed a lot since the first season, with the children gone and the focus shifted to the circle of friends, with some additions good (Jill, Adam), and other not so much (Tammy). And through all that, it managed to stay good, but with the departure of Christy, it's struggling.

The show wasn't the same without Anna. Quit watching after a couple episodes of the current season.

Another great family friendly show gone. As mentioned above I did expect this after Anna left, her and Alison dynamics made the show. It’s been a hard pull this season without Anna. I hope Jill finds her happily ever after and they can convince Anna to come back for the last show.

It’s a shame but completely makes sense. As great as the show has always been, the dynamic of Anna Farris & Alison Janey is missing and really the whole idea of what this show was. Their antics together made the storyline always funny regardless of their own paths on episodes, it still would always go back to the root. Glad they’ll at least be able have their proper end especially after everything the cast/crew has had to endure

Sorry to see this. I actually thought the show improved when Anna Faris left. The addition of Kristen made the show even better.
