NBC has announced that long-running series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been renewed for a thirteenth season.

SVU remains one of only two remaining Law & Order series on the air - Criminal Intent being the other. The original Law & Order was cancelled last year, while the more recent LA installment was given the axe after just one season.

The returning SVU focuses on investigations of sexually based crimes and crimes against children. The show's twelfth season finale aired last night, capping a 24-episode season that averaged a relatively healthy 2.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic.

The show will return in the Fall to its regular Wednesday 10:00pm time slot following Harry's Law on its new day and time.
