The long-running series earns a huge 3-year pickup.
February 27, 2020
NBC announced another history-making renewal today for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, giving the drama three more seasons that will take it to at least Season 24.
While not a surprise given the show's continued strong performance, the news is noteworthy as it extends the veteran procedural's already-record-setting run as American television's longest-running scripted live-action series. Before its current 21st season, the previous record was held by the original Law & Order, as well as 1950s western Gunsmoke, which both lasted 20 seasons.
Today's pickup is part of a new deal between Universal Television and Dick Wolf's Wolf Entertainment, which also earned multi-year renewals for Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med.

I am shocked by such a long renewal as I thought SVU was limping on its last legs. I'm glad Mariska Hargitay knows she's got a good thing going.
