The veteran procedural will return this fall.
April 17, 2026
NBC has announced that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been renewed for Season 28. The news comes with four episodes remaining in the veteran procedural's current 27th season.
While not a surprise given its continued strong performance, the news does extend the veteran procedural's already record-setting run as American television's longest-running scripted live-action series. The show will surpass the 600-episode milestone next season.

I gave up watching this show at least 15 years ago. I did watch a few episodes recently just to see how it's doing. Frankly at this point the story lines are all recycled. It's not that it's a bad show but what's the point of watching after all these years?

I usually disagree with the woke statements, but spot on. They are trying WAY too hard most of the time. It's like someone's older relative trying to be hip but using terms that are 10 years out of date.
They should have retired most of the characters and started from scratch.

Show lost it's way years ago. Way to WOKE now. Two Captains with one working as a Squad member. Come on now. Do they have any real cops telling them how the real world works in NYPD. 90% also do Twenty and out this show is going into season 28. Time to pull the pug on a once really good show. They look foolish now and sad.

Rehash stories from twenty years ago. Good run, but time to turn in your shields. Pension time.

Agree with Unpopular. It has used up all the stories that these writers can imagine. It should go away gracefully.

Agree with Unpopular. It is past it's time.

I don't disagree with Unpopular opinion. I absolutely love this show- but it's not as gripping as it once was. Benson/Stabler as partners were unstoppable. Benson pushed the envelope and was a bit more cocky back then. She's in charge now and has to play politics understandably but the edge isn't there. My favorite dream team was Dann Florek as Captain, Benson/Stabler, Munch/Finn, Drs. Melinda Warner and Elizabeth Rodgers as the ME., Casey Novak, Stephanie March and Barba as the DA's and Dr. Wong as the psychiatrist. I liked Wong and the ME's input on cases. We don't see that anymore. It's a bit boring now.

The show should have ended 6-7 seasons ago.
