Seasons 16 and 17 ordered for the medical drama.
May 10, 2019
ABC announced today that Grey's Anatomy has scored a two-season pickup that will bring it to Season 17. The series is on a truly impressive run, and today's renewal will see it reach even new heights.
Already the network's longest-running prime time scripted series of all time and the longest-running medical drama in TV history, today's two-season order will see Grey's Anatomy surpass ER as having the most seasons of any medical drama, with the former's 17 besting the latter's 15.
On the air since 2005, the veteran Shonda Rhimes hospital drama continues to be a strong performer in ABC's Thursday night lineup. While its ratings are not quite what they were in its heyday, the show still ranks as the network's top drama in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic.
Grey's Anatomy follows Dr. Meredith Grey and her coworkers at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. The staff of attending physicians, residents, and surgical interns are faced with all types of medical cases, from trivial to life-threatening. While furthering their careers, they learn and grow from the patients they treat and the relationships they form with each other.

Please make it stop...
I had thought that with Shonda Rhimes moving on to Netflix ABC could kill off its Thursday lineup but apparently Ms. Rhimes' production contract lives on.

.. because all those lonely women in loveless marriages need SOMETHING to fantasize about which their husbands won't WANT to intrude upon. Horrible zombie of a show. that does nothing but provide a dead spot on ABC you know the DVR won't conflict with.

This show is tired and I can not believe ABC keeps it around.

Honestly, the show originated with the relationship between Meredith and Derek. That was the foundation of the show for years. We saw how she grew from a "slutty intern" to respected attending. The moment that Derek died, the magic of the show did too. Not because Derek was the show, but because their relationship and bond were. It's pathetic now and obvious that the only reason the show is on is because Shondra and ABC network are an aggressive, money-hungry, and greedy bunch. The show is so forced and awkward. It's as if the majority of the show no longer matters. They think that as long as Ellen is around they have a show. But the thing is, one person doesn't make the show. When you keep bringing in new people and spinning unbelievable and straight up random story lines, the magic of the show is gone.

Wow it beat ER. It’s definitely not as good as in the beginning but it’s still watchable and i’ll Watch it until the end!

This has always been one of my favorite shows. It's like watching a baby grow into adolescence for 17 years. And, like growth, there have been some difficult years along the way. But, it is enjoyable to watch the original characters evolve and the newer ones to fumble through their residencies. Granted, the show got a boost from new viewers being able to watch and fall in love with the original episodes via Netflix, but regardless of that, it stands on its own as solid, reliable entertainment.

Oh my God just end already! Ellen's the only good thing about the show anymore.

This show ran directly against "Big Bang Theory" and "Young Sheldon" two of the best rated prime-time shows yet somehow managed to survive. Amazing! 8-)
