CBS announced today that NCIS has been picked up for an 18th season. The news is no surprise, as the veteran series remains a strong performer for the network.
One of the CBS' most-successful series of all-time, NCIS continues to maintain its flagship status. Along with being the longest-running drama series currently on the network, it also holds the distinction of being the most-watched drama on any of the broadcast networks. Today's renewal will see the show hit the 400 episode milestone - a truly impressive feat.
Originating from a concept and characters that were initially introduced in a two-part episode of the CBS series JAG, NCIS was originally referred to as Navy NCIS in its first season. The series follows the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which is the primary law enforcement and counter-intelligence arm of the United States Department of the Navy. Together, the team works in high-stress situations while dealing with often-complex and always-amusing personal dynamics.
