Paramount+ announced today that a new spinoff of NCIS has been ordered to serve as the next chapter in the franchise. Expected to start production later this year, the 10-episode series will see Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly reprise their roles as fan-favorite characters Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo, reuniting them on screen for the first time in 10 years.
"I'm incredibly excited to step into the NCIS universe with Cote and Michael and thrilled to explore it from a few new angles," said showrunner and executive producer John McNamara. "Given that the franchise is such a global sensation, I think it's phenomenal that CBS Studios and Paramount+ have given us the greenlight to shoot in Europe. As to the title of this series, if I told you what it is, I'd be violating the Espionage Act."
After Ziva's supposed death, Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. The new spinoff will find them raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tony's security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and possibly learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.
"We've been talking about this story for many years, and now with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready," said Weatherly and de Pablo. "The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter. We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from around the world who supported the 'TIVA' movement for years. To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you!"

...but, of course, they insisted on trying.
When Ducky died, I was done. It seemed like the perfect closure. Now they're beating a dead horse.
it will not work
They are trying to recreate the good old days of NCIS. The epic episodes and it won't work.
Sheer desperation
I liked OG NCIS until it became repetitive, but enough is enough. Maybe a couple NCIS episodes about Tony and Ziva would be nice. A whole series is too much. I hate saying it, but this is about two actors whose careers have stalled returning to their best known roles because they have nothing else.
The NCIS producers had the right idea when they finished off the story of Harm and Mac from JAG over a few episodes, though of course they tried to milk it by putting the episodes on NCIS: Los Angeles to boost its sagging ratings.
It always feels fake and pandering when shows like NCIS, or Chicago PD try to address current social issues. And it dates the shows horribly. NCIS LA fell into this trap but thankfully dropped that storyline.
NCIS was never going to bring back Weatherly as the lead guy because the actor *didn't want to do it*, either out of respect for Harmon or lack of interest. A mini-series makes sense. If it does well, it will get promoted to a full series.
