CBS announced today that NCIS has been picked up for a landmark 20th season. The news is no surprise, as the veteran drama has been a flagship series on the network for some time, continuing to garner solid ratings year after year.
On the air since 2003, the show currently sits at 431 episodes, which is a truly impressive number in today's television landscape. One of CBS' most successful series of all-time, NCIS is also the longest-running drama series currently on the network. It has two spin-offs on the air, 'NCIS: Los Angeles' and 'NCIS: Hawai'i', both of which were also renewed today, and an upcoming international spin-off, 'NCIS: Sydney' coming soon to Paramount+.
Originating from a concept and characters that were initially introduced in a two-part episode of the CBS series 'JAG', NCIS was originally referred to as 'Navy NCIS' in its first season. The series follows the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which is the primary law enforcement and counter-intelligence arm of the United States Department of the Navy. Together, the team works in high-stress situations while dealing with often-complex and always-amusing personal dynamics.
Look for Season 20 of NCIS as part of the 2022-2023 television season this fall.
