The veteran naval procedural will continue this fall.

CBS announced today that NCIS has been picked up for a 17th season. The news coincides with a new deal signed by star and executive producer Mark Harmon to remain on the long-running drama.
One of the CBS' most-successful series of all-time, NCIS continues to maintain its flagship status. Along with being the longest-running drama series currently on the network, it also holds the distinction of being the most-watched drama on any of the broadcast networks. Today's renewal should see the show hit the 400 episode milestone in 2020 - a truly impressive feat.
Originating from a concept and characters that were initially introduced in a two-part episode of the CBS series JAG, NCIS was originally referred to as Navy NCIS in its first season. The series follows the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which is the primary law enforcement and counter-intelligence arm of the United States Department of the Navy. Together, the team works in high-stress situations while dealing with often-complex and always-amusing personal dynamics.

For all its changes over the years with a lot of unevenness, I still watch every week. It continues to deliver, even as I gave up on the two other spinoffs.

Love this show! So glad it is coming back. I really like some of the new characters. Abby's replacement has been very refreshing.

Great comments by all. My parents watch NCIS. So it has that older demographic I guess. NCIS isn't terrible, but I do miss Abby. I think it just grew long in the tooth for me. @Sweet nailed it: Never Canceled. It Stays! = NC.IS! :-) Ha ha!

Amazing how they can get so many episodes out of the same story line. Not a fan of Harmon.

I still watch, but i really think Gibbs, Vance, and Ducky need to move on. Dont get me wrong, i love their charactors, but theyre worn out - so much backstory now theres really nothing left to learn. At least with McGee it would be fun to see him forced to run the team without Gibbs there to save his ass every week.

Is not CBS remaking JAG with "The Code." Well the cycle has started a new. And people don't wonder why Netflix is doing so well.
