The comic-based drama will air its series finale in 2021.
September 22, 2020
The CW announced today that Supergirl will be coming to an end after its already-ordered sixth season. The news comes eight months after the superhero drama earned its now-final pickup, which will see the show return for its farewell run in 2021.
The action drama has been a solid addition to The CW's superhero slate since its move from its original home on CBS after Season 1 in 2016. On The CW, it benefited from crossover episodes with other shows from the DC Comics universe, which consistently gave it a nice ratings bump.
Star Melissa Benoist took to Instagram after the news broke, expressing her gratitude for being able to portray the iconic character for the past five years. She also expressed excitement for the opportunity to properly plan a conclusion to the series in advance, promising fans "one helluva final season."
Today's news makes Supergirl the second series from the DC Arrowverse to be leaving the air. Arrow concluded its run earlier this year.
Look for the sixth and final season of Supergirl to premiere in 2021 as part of The CW's midseason lineup.

This one was always going to be a tough conversion after it left CBS. It was ok, but it started running out of steam fast. The whole Russian Supergirl arc was a waste and could have been much better. If I were them though I'd figure a way to keep Jon Cryer in the "CWverse" LOL! He makes a really good Lex. much more better choice than Jesse whatever his name is.

I stopped watching a few seasons ago when it started to force the woke agenda over good story. Sorry I’m looking for a show not an agenda. Those characters are just not interesting.

I hope they at least give it a good ending!

I stopped watching a couple of seasons ago. These CW/DC superhero shows just go round and round and never seem to go anywhere.

Gonna miss this one, along with Arrow,The big yearly crossovers just won't be the same without Kara Danvers and Oliver Queen around anymore.

That's too bad. I really enjoyed it. The last few seasons weren't as good as the first few but I certainly enjoyed it. At least it got the news early enough to write a real ending which most shows don't get.

I enjoyed the first 3 seasons. Season 4 started to drag. Even Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor could not save season 5. Too many characters, not enough story. Same problem with The Flash. At least Legends is still fun.

Too funny. This show ended after the first season when it moved to the CW. As The CW ALWAYS does, it turned the show into a woke beacon and stopped trying to produce interesting or plausible storylines. I honestly didn't know it was still on.

The quality of the show became worse the more woke it became and started dropping viewers as a result. I was surprised it even got a 6th season after the low viewers of season 5

I watched the first season, but I suppose most of the superhero/comic-to-screen shows just aren't for me. I did force myself to watch the entire "Agents of Shield" and "Gotham" but it was hard for me to do so.
Melissa B. might be one of the prettiest ladies I've ever seen, btw. As someone else mentioned, 6 seasons is a good run.
