CBS has decided to order a final season of the fan-favorite drama.
May 8, 2023
S.W.A.T. is coming back for a seventh season after all. Just three days after unexpectedly cancelling the veteran drama, CBS has reversed its decision in another surprising move. Star Shemar Moore took to Instagram this afternoon with news that the network has ordered a seventh and final season comprised of 13 episodes.
"We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for SWAT and we have reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast year," CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and Sony Pictures TV Studios president Katherine Pope said in a joint statement. "SWAT has aired for six seasons on CBS and garnered a devoted following. We are pleased that we found a way to bring it back and give closure to the show's storylines and characters, which audiences deserve. Once again, we appreciate the talents and efforts of the cast, writers, producers and crew and everyone who has contributed to the success of SWAT. We look forward to its return next season."
Moore stars in the Los Angeles-based series, which follows a former Marine tasked with running a specialized tactical unit that acts as the city's last stop in law enforcement. Raised on the streets, he is torn between his loyalty to his roots and his allegiance to his new brothers in blue as he works to bridge the divide between his two worlds.

Looking into it elsewhere it doesn't seem they were choosing to cancel the show but struggled to come to a licensing agreement between CBS & Sony TV. I'm last in line to defend studios' trigger fingers but cancellations aren't always a willful move.

Hope Hondo and his girlfriend will get married and stop this "baby daddy" thing. Show young black men to step up and have an intact family.

Great news!!! Every series on tv should get a few episodes to go out as the writers/producers intend it to. I am happy today.
