The celebrity competition nabs a two-season streaming order.
April 8, 2022
Disney announced a big change to Dancing with the Stars today. The celebrity competition has been renewed for Seasons 31 & 32 but it won't be on ABC. Instead the show is becoming the first-ever live series to air on the Disney+ streaming service.
Once a flagship on ABC, the series remained a fairly reliable performer for the broadcast network even after 17 years on the air. While there have been some recent changes, such as bringing in new host Tyra Banks in 2020, today's move will surely impact the show more than any of its previous tweaks. Will existing fans follow it over to its new streaming home?
Disney will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on how the show performs in the next two seasons on its new platform. If successful, it could be the beginning of a larger shift towards move live programming appearing on streaming services.
Look for Season 31 of Dancing with the Stars this fall exclusively on Disney+.

I usually only watch the first episode each season, but I definitely won't be following it to Disney+. I think it will have a definite negative impact on ratings. But I also agree w/ Bev: not the same show w/o Tom!

The new show :They must declare themselves niether men nor women and dance with sacks on themselves so that they are gender neutral.

I could care less !! Haven't watched since Tyra Banks took over from Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews !! Another poor move on ABC's part !!

Lots of older people enjoy this show. Many will not order Disney+, because a lot of the other content on Disney is not geared towards seniors. Basically ABC/Disney is giving older fans the old F@*K OFF. Thankfully I do not watch much ABC anyway.

Yay! A new way to not watch it! #HardPass - There haven't been stars on that show in a decade.

I wont be watching anymore as I cant pay for Disney+
I think the ratings will go down now due to the move.

Seems like they want to use this as a "test" to try and drive more viewers to pay for Disney+. They could always move it back to ABC if the experiment fails.

today's move will surely impact the show more than any of its previous tweaks.
Expect ratings to plummet.
Disney will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on how the show performs in the next two seasons on its new platform.
Falling off a cliff here it comes.
If successful
It will not be.
it could be the beginning of a larger shift towards move live programming appearing on streaming services
So they want to crater the ratings for a lot of shows.

Wow didn't see that coming. Quite a bold move by Disney. I guess new episodes will air "live" and then be available immediately afterwards as well?
