The reality show extends its run.
March 25, 2016
CBS has renewed Survivor for the 2016-2017 television season. On the air since 2000, Survivor is the longest-running reality show on broadcast network TV. After 16 years, it continues to draw impressive ratings and shows little sign of slowing down.
If the show maintains its two-a-year format, today's pickup will see it through Season 34.

Bob, I couldn't agree with you more. Those have been my complaints about the show for quite awhile. I remember when they thought they were just going for a photo shoot or something like that, and then they had to jump off the boat and swim to shore taking only what they had on at the time. They had to find water to drink, start a fire from scratch, and then find food. Now they don't even show them trying to figure out how to make shelter. I recall when the contestants had to eat grubs, ants and rats in order to keep from starving. They need to get rid of the immunity idols and really shake things up.

@Dillon you may take it that way, but the way they worded it does not resemble the fact they think season wise -
"On the air since 2000, Survivor is the longest-running reality show on TV"
they put the year it started, that says years wise, not season wise... if they meant the other way they could have worded it that way and not included the year, saying longest running reality on tv.
@Pope - you know your comment made me realize, I stopped watching this show back when Russel(?) I think it was - a really rich dude joined and was making life hell for everyone else.
to me it was a show that someone could make money who needed it and - like you said - was not just on a vacation and all they cared about was 'making good tv' - that is when people try to hard and it looses its interests for me

I have a love hate relationship with this show. It used to be must see TV in the early days but now it is hit or miss based on the contestants they choose. Nothing is fresh and while I love Jeff Probst, he is soooo annoying during challenges with his constant running commentary!! Shut it with the jabbering!! Sheesh.

I never miss an episode of Survivor, however I feel that when contestants automatically know to look for hidden immunity idols without being told that they exist then it's time to shake it up and get rid of them. I also think that the contestants have it way to easy now compared to the first half dozen or so seasons. Now it seems as if they have changes of clothes and no longer have to search for drinkable water or struggle to make fire. I wish they would bring the nasty food eating contests back.

When they say longest running, they mean in terms of seasons. RW is on 30th or something whereas Survivor has just been renewed up to 34.

Why don't they just cancel it is all I gotta say!? Why after 30 years has this show not ended and its still popular and why don't people catch on that each season the same stuff happens it's just people stranded on an island trying to survive to won a cash prize so I just wanna know why is it still on the air and why does the host justovs on and why don't they just lay it to rest? Just that's all I got!!!!!!;;;

I think the show suffers from "what sane person has 39 days to just walk away from their life" syndrome. In the early years, they got contestants that were willing to just take a shot... now they get rich people or celebrities that don't have anything to do daily so a 39 day "vacation" isn't that problematic. I realize the producers and vetting only provide a limited contestant poole. But they type of contestants they are getting aren't nearly as great as they used to get. This is another show that would be better serves by "going back to basics" and the producers reviewing the first few seasons to remind them of what made the show a hit to start with.

Agree with Kat,
Group challenges all end up with a puzzle. Individual challenges all end up with some hand held maze or an endurance challenge.
Here's an idea: Balance on a log with one foot, balance a whiffle ball on the tongue, while winking at Probst.

I miss the food eating challenges and them giving away a car. I also do not like that every challenge has more than one part a is part of a puzzle. I love the fact that we saw individuals helping others as they drop because of the heat.
